Overview

The Tall AccuRotor Computerized Rota-Rod is a four-lane system for motor coordination testing, featuring an extended 64 cm fall height. This configuration includes a 7 cm diameter rotating rod, suitable for use with rats, and delivers smooth, precise rotation through a DC servo motor. Speeds range from 0.0 to 100.0 RPM, with adjustable acceleration and deceleration up to 40 RPM per second, in both clockwise and counterclockwise directions.

Each of the four 110 mm wide lanes includes optical fall detection, a start button, status indicator, and removable waste tray. The enclosed chamber below each rod helps minimize cross-lane interference following a fall. A built-in lock-out mechanism prevents subjects from unintentionally rotating the rod.

The system operates through the included Fusion software, which is compatible with Windows 7, 10, and 11. Users can run constant-speed trials or create custom acceleration profiles using the Acceleration Profile Editor, including options for forward and reverse motion as well as looping. Trial results such as fall time, rod speed at the time of fall, and experiment configuration can be exported in Excel-compatible .CSV format.
