Description

The Analgesia Meter Hot/Cold Plate is a high-precision instrument designed for quantitative assessment of nociceptive responses to thermal stimuli in laboratory animals. Ideal for behavioral neuroscience, pharmacology, and pain research, the system delivers tightly controlled heating or cooling across a wide temperature range from −5 °C to 65 °C.

At the core of the instrument is an advanced temperature controller capable of rapidly reaching and maintaining the selected set point without overshoot. Once stabilized, the plate remains at a uniform temperature indefinitely, with less than 0.1 °C variation across the entire surface from center to edge. Built-in auto-tuning minimizes stabilization time and ensures highly repeatable experimental conditions between trials.

During testing, the subject is placed directly on the thermally controlled plate and monitored for observable indicators of discomfort, such as paw licking, lifting, or withdrawal. An integrated electronic timer with 1-millisecond resolution precisely records response latency, enabling accurate quantification of thermal sensitivity and analgesic effects. A palm switch allows the operator to initiate and stop timing quickly and intuitively, reducing handling errors and improving consistency.

An included clear acrylic animal cage can be positioned over the plate to restrict movement while maintaining full exposure to the thermal stimulus. This design supports reliable behavioral observation without interfering with the stimulus delivery.

The system is available as either a stand-alone unit or a PC-controlled configuration. Integrated USB connectivity enables straightforward data export for documentation and analysis, facilitating seamless integration into modern digital research workflows.

With precise temperature regulation, exceptional uniformity, millisecond timing accuracy, and flexible operation modes, the Analgesia Meter Hot/Cold Plate provides dependable performance for studies of thermal sensitivity, analgesic efficacy, and pain modulation.
